KIN 855 Psychosocial Bases of Coaching

This class focused on the physical and psychological aspects of coaching . The course covered the study of motor learning with emphasis on the difference between science and beliefs. Also, individual movements and concept of transfer (how do movements and concepts in practice get applied to athletic events) were covered. The class concluded by exploring the psychological challenges that athletes encounter and the role that coaches can play in overcoming them.

KIN 854 Legal Issues of Coaching

This course prepares athletic administrators, school administrators, coaches, and directors of recreational programs for the responsibilities associated with providing and maintaining educationally sound athletic programs for amateur athletes. Obligations of those who are responsible for managing the risks associated with participation in physical activities are identified, as are the consequences of failing to protect the welfare of individuals who participate in school and agency-sponsored programs.
CEP 802 Developing Positive Attitudes Toward Learning

This course examined the question of what motivates students to learn and why some students seem to lack a desire to learn. The class learned about the three major theoretical perspectives on motivation- behavioral, intrinsic, and cognitive and were challenged to consider the negative consequences of using a reward system in the classroom.
EAD 866 Teaching Post-Secondary Education

EAD 861 focused on how adults learn differently from standard K-12 students, and how adult bring different experiences to the adult classroom.

This class focused on the aquisistion of learning to read and write with special attention given to struggling reders. The class learned about instruction and remediation in reading and writing, classroom assessment techniques for reading and writing, and materials and adaptations for reading and writing instruction.
